A Note From Rachel Burchfield, MC's Senior Celebrity and Royals Editor | Spotify Was Apparently Supposed to Release a Statement of Support for Meghan Markle as $20M Deal Ended—But Didn’t | Princess Diana’s Iconic Black Sheep Sweater Is About to Go Up for Auction for the First Time

Hi everyone! I am Marie Claire’s newest team member, Rachel Burchfield, and I have served as our Senior Celebrity and Royals Editor since April. Unbelievably, that was almost three months ago—where does the time go?—and somehow we are already at the point in the summer where we are gearing up for at minimum a day off for the Fourth of July on Tuesday and, as is my wish for all of you, a long four day weekend ahead.
If you’re me, this holiday (and most of the summer) you’re by the pool with a stack of magazines and a new book. If that’s you, too, you’re in luck: Our July Book Club pick is out—The Spare Room by Andrea Bartz. It’s a thriller that I can’t wait to dive into—hopefully I won’t get so engrossed in it that I forget to reapply my sunscreen and get sunburned (read more about that below). I’ll also be combing through the 2023 Marie Claire Skin Award winners and making a list in the notes section of my phone of what I need to add to cart. I am beauty product obsessed, but as I get older, I learn that 100 makeup products can’t equal well taken care of skin.
Enjoy your (hopefully) long weekend, whatever you’re up to—and don’t forget to take some time to take care of yourself.
Per my tease earlier, I have very fair, sensitive skin, and I gave up trying to be the tannest of my friends about 20 years ago (total futile effort). Instead, I’m obsessed with keeping my porcelain skin as pristine as possible, which, if I’m outside for any length of time, includes finding the perfect sunscreen that works. One I love is one so many do, too—Supergoop’s Unseen Suncreen, which has an SPF of 40. (That’s a little low for me, but it is still effective.) It really lives up to its name and is invisible, in addition to being scentless and lightweight. You can even add it to your daily makeup and skincare routine—it’s that unobtrusive. SHOP IT
