This week's newsletter topic, similar to last week's, also comes by special request: chic bags for a hands-free summer. "I saw someone with a sad backpack, ruining an otherwise very cute look," a friend texted me. An inspired way of saying that accessories matter. Don't be this person…shop my many selects below!

I don't own a ton of backpacks myself. I do see the benefit in an equal distribution of weight, especially if you're a mom who has to catch something at any given moment and you don't want your bag to fly off your shoulder. Each of these are big enough to hold necessary warm weather essentials like sunscreen, hand sanitizer, snacks, sunglasses, and headphones.

This is my absolute favorite bag category. Yes, they work for summer, but the best ones have a long enough strap so you can also wear them with a bulky coat once temperatures drop again. They're even better if they come with a top handle (the best design, if you ask me).

There's something so freeing about a fanny pack during the summer. Just roomy enough to hold keys, wallet, and phone, but not too bulky that you'll get bogged down with the unnecessary. These are my favorites for running around on hot weekend days.

P.S. When I mentioned the topic of this week's newsletter, another friend said I had to add the Loewe Puzzle bag fanny pack. While it's an investment, it's fashion industry veteran-approved.

Free People Light As Air Running Shorts: "I tested these shorts for a story with my coworkers and liked them so much that I ordered two more pairs. They're cut a little looser than typical running shorts, so they don't bunch up or chafe on long distance runs. (This is mission critical for me while I train for my first marathon over the summer.) The easy access, zipper-pocket waistband is also a major plus, as is the wide color range. If you're between sizes, go a size down."

Dôen Mallory Dress: "This feels like a safe space to admit that I bought my ninth (9th!) Dôen dress last weekend. In my defense, I haven't found another brand that does day dresses as well as them: They're comfortable, polished but not overly fussy, and come in patterns that are easy to mix with knitwear in the winter or wear as-is in the summer. I've already worn the Mallory to work with an oversize blazer and little red ballet flats. Even my Gen Z colleagues complimented it, which says something. For reference, I usually wear a 10/12 and fit comfortably in Dôen's size L."

Officine Universelle Buly Baume Des Muses: "I traveled to Paris for work a few weeks ago and spent a precious hour of free time visiting Officine Universelle Buly's Left Bank boutique. The maison is known for heady fragrances and lotions, but the real gems are the personalized lip balms stashed in tiny velvet pouches. I had one stamped with my initials in the store, and was excited to find out they're also available online. They're dainty and adorable—and the balm is very hydrating!—so friends I really love will get these as future birthday gifts and stocking stuffers."
